What are Traditional Shutters?
Traditional shutters frequently called colonial shutters, originate from the colonial times in the northeastern states. But this quaint style has rapidly spread to the rest of the country.
These shutters differentiate themselves with the unique wedge-shaped louver only 1 1/4 inch wide. Unlike other shutters, colonial shutters are mainly available in
wood.
They were used by the colonists for windows because they couldn't afford glass. The original colonial shutters did not have any louvers just a solid insert, but eventually this style was transformed with the louvered version; sometimes only on the upper half with the lower half solid.
Another style that is quite common is the double-hung shutters. It has two rows of panels and each row operates separately.
Today they are used in all types of homes but they look best when used in small windows in cottage or country style homes.
