Question

We would like to be able to find something of a stained glass cling or real glass. The windows are 11 inches by 78 inches.

Where can we find something like that?

We would like color there, not just etched.

Answer

You can get stained glass window film which can be made to fit many sizes. We have very many pretty colorful designs and they are easy to install (also to remove if necessary).

Take a look at these faux stain glass window films.

side windows to front door

Question

I have a solid front door with side windows on each side of the door and a large rectangle shaped window above the door. I'm a do-it-yourself person, and I would like to hang sheers above the door and beside.

The problem lies in the side windows. I would use extension rods to hang the side sheers, except the side windows are only 6.5" wide. Do they even make a tension rod this small? And if so, where can I get one?

Also, I'm a renter, so I am limited to what I can do...that's why I thought the tension rod would be best.

Please help me with ANY suggestions you may have.

Thanks
Lisa V.

Answer

Hi Lisa

Tension rods come in adjustable sizes so you can fit it into the exact size windows you have. There are special tension rods for sidelight windows, however I've seen them in sizes as low as 8" to 11", but not lower. So finding them in your size can turn out to be a real problem.

There is one suggestion that I can offer you, that is to use the rods from our sunburst kit. Although they are flexible and bendable, they originally come straight. The reason why I feel that it would be appropriate for you is, that they can be cut to exact size easily, simply by using a hacksaw. You would however need to use screws for installation.

Good luck and when your masterpieces are done you can show them off here.

sidelights

Question:

We need to cover entry door sidelights. We are looking for something that will allow us to see from the inside. But nothing should be seen from the outside. What should we use?

Answer:

What you are looking for is a called a one way window treatment; you can see the outside but nobody can look in.

Take a look at our mirror window film. You will be able to look out while passersby will only see a mirror.

There is one thing that you have to be aware of is that mirror window film and other one way window coverings only provide daytime privacy.

The benefit of 'look out but can't look in' is reversed at night. And if the inside is lighted you will lose your privacy.

Getting the right size

I have 2 sidelight windows at my front door and I want to cover them but I am not sure what size to order. For the inner part of the windows the measurements are 9 inches wide and 38 inches high. What size covering should I order?

Answer

Is the 9 x 38 inch measurement surrounded by a frame at least 3/4" deep? If yes, this is the correct measurement and you choose an inside mount. Just make sure the measurement is exact to the 1/8" especially by the width.

If the frame is not 3/4" deep, then you might need an outside mount. In this case the measurements need to be 2" wider; since an outside mount should overlap at least 1" on each side. Just make sure that nothing will be blocking the shades.

Side Lights

Question I have two sidelights on either side of my entry way door. I am look for some type of covering. I especially like the cellular shade option featured on your site, but I would like to know how to measure before placing the order.

Answer The sidelight shades can be mounted either inside within the window frame or outside in front of the frame.

Inside mount - you measure the height and the width within the window frame. You order it in the exact size and we will make adjustments so that it should open and close smoothly. This option is only possible if the depth of your window frame is at least 3/4".

Outside mount - the shades will mount in front of the window frame, therefore they should be wider than the opening.

Measure the height and the width of the sidelight and add at least 1" to each side totalling to an addition of 2" to the height and 2" to the width of the window. If you prefer you can add more to the height or width. We will make the shade the exact size you specify.
