Impossible Triangle Window

Isosceles triangle

Isosceles triangle

Question Help! Although beautiful, this east-facing third floor window has proven to be a nightmare to shade from early morning light that floods in and hits sleepers right in the face.

I'd like to find a solution that can be opened to let light in and closed to the sunlight with relative ease. The room decor is simple and masculine. I'm attaching a picture. The dimensions are 75"x 96" and the window itself is recessed 2" within a frame. The bottom part of the triangle has two slide windows that provide important ventilation. What do you recommend? I'm attaching a picture.

Answer

What a magnificent window!

It would be a pity to cover it up! You need a solution that will allow you to cover the window during the times that you need it closed and open it to expose the beautiful window and the outside view at other times.

For situations like these I recommend our bottom compressing cellular shades, which open by compressing the shade to the bottom of the window sill and close by raising it to the top of the window.

Ths window covering comes in many odd shapes including triangle and pentagon shapes.

The fabric used is the Hunter Douglas Duette and Applause cellular material. The best to use is the light filtering ones because the room darkening ones will not open fully and block half the window.

Triangle shape?
by: The Window Treatment Expert

The triangle shape above can be covered with a openable window treatment as explained above. We also have openable window treatments for right angle triangles.

If you have a different shape triangle or are not sure if your triangle is the shapes I mentioned post a photo of it and I will tell you if it is possible.

Triangular Shades
by: Robbie

Where can I find more information about the shades mentioned in this answer? I have 4 triangular windows on the sides and tops of 2 rectangular windows (chalet style front of A-frame house). The windows are right angle triangles.

Triangular shaped windows

Triangle window

Triangle window

Question

I recently purchased a Victorian home.In the finished attic are two triangle shaped windows of equal size.

The base is 52 1/8 inches wide and the two sides are both 39 3/4 inches from base to top of triangle. If I measure from the top of the triangle to the base it is 30 5/8 inches high.

My issue is I do not know how to measure or show the curve on the sides.

I am wanting to have cellular shades made but do not know if this is possible. I am attaching a photo from the real estate web site and can mail a pattern I made of it. Can you help?

Thanks!

Answer

Hi Ann

What an exotic window! The right operable window shade will let you have full use of this unique window.

We can make a cellular shade for this shape window which will open top down and compress to the bottom of the window sill where the valance will lay.

To be able to make the shape right we will need a template of the window and the widest width and the tallest height.

The fabric used is the Hunter Douglas Applause or Duette fabric. Choose from any of their light filtering fabrics or the Architella room darkening fabric. Reply to the e-mail I sent you and I will give you a price quote.

triangle window - angled top and bottom

by Margaret Green
(La Canada, California)

Question

I am thinking about putting in a triangular window that's vertical on one side and both the top and bottom sides at an angle (sort of like this: [> ) It will face west so it will need to be shaded in the afternoon. Is this possible? If not, maybe I need to think of a new shape!

Thanks for your help.

Answer

Hi Margaret,

It is possible to cover a window in the shape that you are inquiring about, however it will have to be with a window covering that is stationary (cannot be opened or closed).

If you want a window covering that can be opened and closed you will have to choose a different shape. See the discussion about triangle windows for solutions on other triangle shapes.
