Small Eyebrow Windows in a turret

by Barbara
(California)

Question

Sponsored Links

I have two small eyebrow arched windows in my office area. They face West and are enclosed in the turret above our front door so they are very visible from the entry. The windows are 17" wide, the legs are 44" tall and the center point is 46.5" tall. The afternoon sun is unberable and I can't sit and work at my desk. I need some ideas to cover these windows.

There are also 5 others in the house that are smaller that will need to be covered eventually as well. I would like them to all be the same if possible. Any tips since they are so small in size.

Answer

The difficulty of covering your windows lies not only in the small size, but also in the eyebrow shape. The only window covering that could be made into any shape or size is the cellular shades.

We can make them in an eyebrow shape and they will open from top down making the view completely visible when open but you can completely protect yourself from the sun when closed.

You can choose between room darkening and light filtering fabrics and a large range of colors.

If you want to cut the expense of the eyebrow shades you can take a rectangular shade 44" long and mount them to the side of your window. Only the rounded part will not be covered.

You can buy narrow cellular shades online on our sidelight window treatment page.

Eyebrow arch

by Diane
(Chicago, IL)

Question

We have a large window with an eyebrow arch in my daughters bedroom which is directly above the front door. The window is actually two casement windows together, each having a half arch.

The dimensions are 54 wide x 52 high in the corners and 58in high at the top of the arch. Each individual window is 25in wide with 4 inches of casement down the middle.

Is it possible to get a top down cellular shade?

Is the frame across the top in the shape of the arch?

Would it be less expensive to get two "half shades" to fit in each window?

Answer

You can get the top down cellular shade for the arched windows. The head-rail is across the bottom and the shade is shaped like the arch.

It would be more expensive to get two separate "half shades" for each window.

Question #2

Because the shade is over the front door is it possible to get a dark color on the outside of the cellular blind?

I have found that a darker covering facing the street is less obvious than white because of the reflection of the glass makes it look like there is no covering.

Thank you.

Answer #2

No, the cellular shades all come with a neutral white back.

Half Windows with "eyebrow arches"

Question

I have a beautiful dining room window. It is actually 2 windows divided by sheet rock. I am having a hard time trying to find something to dress the windows. I love my windows and I don't want to hide their beauty.

Answer

We have the perfect thing for these windows. It is a cellular shade that works as a top-down application and compresses at the bottom of the window. Like this the whole window remains completely unobstructed when opened just as in this window. You can also close it completely for sun protection and privacy.

Take a look at this diagram to see how this unique window treatment works.

Question:
Hi,

Wondering if you can help me with my 2 new windows(renovations. Both windows have had to be lowered due to the curved part at top. Now my windows are quite low to the floor(had to take out bottom header. The window part at top, before elliptical is now at eye level.I was going to put the curtain rod across that part of the window and hang curtains there but now I am not sure it will look good.I love the curve at top and don't want to cover that up but the rest of the window needs something. It looks too bare with nothing up to them.PLEASE HELP!!!! Thanks

Answer

What you need is a flexible curtain rod which can be curved to the shape of your elliptical window. This way you can have both the curtain on your window without spoiling the curved top.

You can purchase the flexible curtain rods here.

Eyebrow-shaped opening

by Holly
(Goodyear, AZ)

I have an eyebrow-shaped opening above the door that separates my bedroom from the bathroom. It has 16” legs and is 36” wide.

Because the outside wall of the bathroom is made of glass blocks, and there is an eyebrow window above the glass block wall, a lot of light comes into the bathroom. Unfortunately, a lot of light comes into my bedroom in the morning when the sun comes up.

We have room-darkening cellular shades on all the windows in the bedroom, and would like to do the same with this eyebrow-shaped opening above the bathroom door. But I would like the option of opening up that space during the day.

I did see a picture on your website showing a cellular shade on an eyebrow window that lowered from the top down. That would be a perfect solution for me.

Question:

Because the eyebrow-shaped opening is so high up (bottom of opening begins 7’8” up), is there such a thing as a cellular shade that can be lowered and raised with a remote control?

Answer

Hi Holly

Yes, all specialty shaped cellular shades that are symmetrical on both sides can be opened and closed with a motorized remote control.

For room darkening you would need to choose from the Hunter Douglas Duette Architella room darkening fabrics. These are the only room darkening fabrics that open and close fully.
