Discount Window Treatments

Can you really find discount window treatments without compromising on quality?

You are sure aware of the saying "you get what you pay for", so if you purchase discount window treatments or order blinds online are you getting less or not?

The answer to this depends on what your needs are. When you buy window treatments your needs may be different than by others.

Here we will discuss the difference between buying window coverings online or at a discount store verses buying them at a custom window treatment store.

Is the quality the same or not?

The answer is Yes and No. It depends on what you purchase.

We'll divide the quality of window coverings into three categories.

These are those off the shelf window blinds and shades that aren't even custom fitted. You can buy them only at Home Depot or Lowe's or online; a custom window treatment store wouldn't touch them.

This might be right for you if you are looking for an economical solution and don't mind replacing them very often. It is a matter of luck if you will end up saving money in the long term, but for the short term it sure is a money saver.

Custom-made window shades and blinds

These custom made blinds and shades come in a vast range of qualities from superb to poor. Hunter Douglas is considered the top brand but there are many runner ups like Comfortex or Graber. A reputable window treatment store will only sell you good quality stuff. So if you find discount window treatments at a price that is too good to be true, check out the brand before purchasing.

With the good quality window shades and blinds a lower price does not necessarily mean savings if you can't install it yourself. Installation cost should be added to the price of the blinds to accurately compare costs.

See our installation test below

Private Brands

Many online blind stores sell their own private brand of window coverings, this method of cutting out the middleman does sometimes result in true discount window treatments.

However before purchasing check out the company that sells the blinds to make sure that they are offering you high quality merchandise. Also do the installation test below to see if you are really saving money.

The price for window treatments bought on the web or in discount stores, unlike those bought in a window treatment store, do not include installation.

Some people need to have somebody install their shades while other are handy enough and even enjoy doing it themselves.

If you do not feel comfortable installing window coverings yourself, find out what the cost of installion is before buying discount window treatments from the web or a discount store. You might be surprised. The price of the window coverings plus the installation might not be cheap at all.

So, very often it only pays to buy window blinds or shades online or at a discount store if you are handy and have no problem installing them.

An online store cannot measure the windows for you so how do you know if they are measured accurately?

Good online stores will give you detailed instructions on how to measure your windows so that they fit perfectly.

But if you do make a mistake you have to carry the loss. Unlike a window covering specialist that comes to your home to measure, chances for errors are less and if there are errors the specialist absorbs the loss.
