Deep, Recessed Windows

Question

Sponsored Links

My windows are recessed about 5-6 inches from the frame. We are going to hang some honeycomb window treatments in most of the windows and some wood blinds or solar shades in a couple.

Should I hang these window treatments as far into the frame as I can or flush with the frame? I'm guesssing it is just a personal preference but please let me know if I am missing anything or can learn from others that have had to make this decision in the past.

Thanks

Answer

The window treatments will be the prettiest if they are flush with the frame. Putting them recessed into the window will take away some of the beauty.

24 inch deep window sill

Question

The walls in my house are 2 feet deep. Therefore my windows are 2 feet deep. I have three long windows in the living room and two in the front and one on the side of the dining room. How or what kind of window treatments do I use?

Answer

You can use any type of window treatment you just have a larger choice of where to actually place your window covering.

If you want that the two feet deep window sill should not be so visible use inside mount window treatments and mount them flush to the front of the sill. Like this when your window shades are closed nobody will be able to see that you have such extraordinary window sills.

Painting around or into deep windows

by Darlene
(Holland, MA)

Question

I have walls that are almost a foot deep giving me 8" deep window openings. The sills are wood. I am painting the room (pink - a girl's room) and not sure if I should paint the wall color into the window area. I'll be mounting the valance and panels (green with pink accent) outside the window area. I'm not sure if painting the window area pink will look funny... help! :-) Thank you!!

Answer

Do you have other moldings in the room?

The window sills should be the same color as the moldings (no matter which color they are).

After your window treatment in the girl's room is done, you can brag about them at our unique window treatments page!
