Corner Window
Question
We have a corner window in an older home that we would like to install plantation shutters. I believe the primary attribute of the corner window is the panoramic view when the window treatment is completely open. Our challenge is, the window on the left side of the corner is 66" wide and installers say that is too wide to have the shutters open completely to the left side (due to the weight of the shutters being too great on the hinges). Two installers have told us we would be required to have one shutter attached to a post in the corner, eliminating the panoramic view I wish to keep.
Attached is a picture from the inside showing both windows. The one on the right is no problem, 50" wide. The one on the left has the 66" width problem.
We appreciate any ideas you have to help us resolve this challenge. Thanks!
Answer
The shutters you were inquiring about were most probably those that open like a folding door. What you need to do is ask for shutters that open the same way as a sliding door.
The advantage is that since it works with a track you don't have the problem with too much weight on the hinges. However you will need an extended overhead track to allow the shutters to slide completely past the window for a full view.
