2 sets sliding glass doors, side by side

by Cheryl
(Montclair, NJ)

Question

I have two sets of sliding glass doors, 8 ft. Side by side. I am trying to think of possible window covering ideas, i.e. shutters, drapes blinds.

Answer

I realize that you do not have much space on the sides of your two sliding doors.

The correct way to install window treatments on sliding doors is to allow them to open on the side, the same direction as the sliding door itself. Now if your window covering has a wide stack it will not have enough place on the side for the window covering to stack. This will cause the window treatment to cover part of your sliding door glass.

So the best thing for you to choose is a window covering that has a small stack that will either have space on the side of your sliding door or at least it will not cover so much of your window.

If you want shutters, you should choose those that are fold-able rather than the ones that open like a sliding door, because the sliding door kind will not have where to stack.
